Chandel, September 29 2014 :
A sit-in-protest denouncing the deplorable road condition of Pallel-Chandel road was held at the district head quarters of Chandel today.
The protest was organized by Chandel District Vigilance Committee in collaboration with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Chandel district to denounce the deplorable condition of the road which has remained unattended till date.
Talking to mediapersons on the sideline of the protest, District Vigilance Committee president BD Betha Anal said the protest was organized to denounce the pending reconstruction of Pallel-Chandel road even after the fund for restoration of the road has been sanctioned.
Since the time when Chandel district became a full fledged district in 1974, the district is lagging behind all other districts in the field of education, health and developmental works, Betha added.
"At such a juncture," he continued, "the district's main lifeline i.e Pallel to Chandel has been in a deplorable state for the last ten years or more which has led to the 'chronic suffering' of the people" .
He accused the Central and state governments of neglecting the people and charged that the people of Chandel have been given a step-motherly treatment.
He mentioned the people's protest for the road in the past with volumes of memoranda submitted to both the Central and state Governments requesting expedition of the construction work.
BJP Chandel district vice-president, Ts Konal while briefing the media said the then Governor of Manipur VK Duggal during his last visit in June, had communicated the Ministry's sanction of 13 crore for repairing the road.
However, restoration work has not begun till date.
Expressing unhappiness in this regard, he further questioned the whereabouts of the sanctioned money.
