ASI among 11 suspended

Along with official conveyance to the Central Government for necessary action to hand over NSCN-IM's Lt Col Livingstone Anal to the State Government, 11 State police force personnel, including one Assistant Sub Inspector and five Village Defence Force personnel, have been placed under suspension pending further departmental inquiry.
The 11 personnel of Chandel district police, have been suspended for their gross misconduct and dereliction of duty on December 18, said separate suspension orders issued by the SP (Chandel) in-charge Md Feroze Khan.
The suspended police personnel are HS Roshan Anal (ASI), KL Behalshing Anal (Head Constable), and constables Kh Phungthei, Modarphun, Lunkholen and Kenath.
The VDF personnel against whom disciplinary action is being contemplated include Moshilpha, Rona, Koningwar, Kanshem and Lunminthang, all attached to Chandel police station.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Secretary DS Poonia has reportedly apprised Union Home Secretary RK Singh on the prevailing situation arising out of the Chandel incident and sought the intervention of the Central Government in handing over accused Livingstone Anal to the State Government.
According an informed source, Poonia highlighted to RK Singh molestation of actress Momoko Khangembam by NSCN-IM's Lt Col Livingstone Anal and opening fire at her two fellow artistes who tried to intervene.
Conveying that the issue had figured at the recent State Assembly leading to the State Government's directive to State police and Assam Rifles to trace and apprehend Livingstone, the Chief Secretary is also said to have described the prevailing situation as 'very sensitive with potential to incite ethnic strife.
The public sentiment in Imphal Valley was already aroused in view of the demands for 'Alternative Arrangement by the UNC and the likely outcome of talks between the Government of India and NSCN (IM), the source quoted the Chief Secretary as saying.
Suggesting that the Ministry of Home Affairs direct the NSCN (IM) leadership to immediately hand over Livingstone to the State authorities for prosecution as per law, Poonia also urged the Centre to advice Army and Assam Rifles to make all efforts to track Livingstone and hand over the individual to the State police as and when apprehended.
