NIPCO, AMKIL commemorate 2000 rally

Imphal, September 28 2026: The Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) has categorically stated that it would be far better for the Chief Minister to step down if he is more concerned about saving BJP and is not in a position to protect Manipur.

The National Identity Protection Council (NIPCO) and AMKIL today jointly observed the 26th Manipur Integrity and Solidarity Observance Day 2026 in commemoration of the mass rally held on September 28, 2000 to safeguard the integrity of Manipur.

Speaking at the function held at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound, AMKIL president Lourembam Nganbi said that the State Government will not be able to work in the interest of Manipur even if Chief Ministers are replaced several times until and unless the Chief Ministers are sincere and committed enough.

Manipur, at present, needs a genuine, capable and committed leader like Lamyanba Hijam Irabot, she said.

Nganbi alleged that the Government of India has not yet stopped scheming to fragment Manipur.

By using Kukis as their proxy and waging a sustained armed aggression against indigenous communities, the Government of India has been scheming to break up Manipur, she alleged.

In the face of this sustained aggression, the State Government has been watching silently and helplessly, she said.

Even if Chief Ministers are replaced one after another, a lasting solution to the current crisis will remain elusive until and unless the Chief Ministers work sincerely in the collective interest of Manipur, Nganbi continued.

The AMKIL president also underscored the need for all indigenous communities to stand united and fight collectively against the sustained armed offensive of illegal immigrants.

NIPCO president O Premjit said that the territorial integrity of Manipur faced a serious threat when the words "without territorial limits" were inserted in the Bangkok agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN(IM) .

Taking serious note of this threat, AMKIL and NIPCO organised a huge mass sending an unmistakable message to the whole world that the territorial integrity of Manipur was non-negotiable, he said.

Now, Kuki narco-terrorists have been challenging the territorial integrity of Manipur after they launched a premeditated armed aggression from May 3, 2023 .

Since then, Kuki narco-terrorists have been continuously attacking and killing innocent people belonging to indigenous communities, he said.

Instead of controlling the protracted violence, the Government has been giving a free hand to the Kuki narco-terrorists and this has created a deep sense of resentment and indignation among the people, he continued.

It is no big deal for the Government of India to neutralise the threats to the integrity and identity of Manipur.

Instead, Kuki narco-terrorists are being empowered to attack and kill Meitei and Naga people, Premjit said.

There is no guarantee that India will not disintegrate when Manipur breaks apart, he added before appealing to the Government of India to let the people of Manipur live peacefully with dignity.

COCOMI convenor YK Dhiren and Manipur College, Department of Economics Assistant Professor Lairenjam Gojendro too attended the function as presidium member and resource person respectively.

The gathering also observed a two-minute silence in honour of all the martyrs who had laid down their lives for the cause of the motherland.
