Minister assures road projects

While appealing to the people residing in between Wahengbam Leikai to Oriental College Gate, along the National Highway-37, to bear inconveniences they are presently enduring due to ongoing road development work, Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar announced that the approach road to Machi village under Tengnoupal assembly constituency would be developed within the 2012-13 fiscal.
The Minister made the announcements while assessing the condition of the approach road to Machi village, which is about 22-kilometre east of Kakching Lamkhai along the NH-120. Speaking to newspersons during the inspection visit, Ratankumar stated that as the approach road is an important link for Machi and adjoining villages development of the same under the special plan assistance would be enlisted in the work programme of 2012-13 fiscal.
He also confided that Works department is looking into every aspect to develop the Heirok, Machi and Sita route for connecting with Khudengthabi, which on completion will shorten the Imphal-Moreh distance by about 13 kilometres.
Replying to posers from the newspersons, the Minister stated that the 3.220 kilometre long NH-37 road stretch from Wahengbam Leikai to Oriental College Gate is being developed to a four-lane route.
While road expansion on the southern end and WBM work have been initiated from the 2011-12 fiscal the same project could not be carried out at the desired pace due to fund paucity of the Department, conceded the Minister who also informed that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had already floated e-tender in The Ministry sanctioned the amount for utilisation in three different works.
The first work is expansion Manipur University-Lilong section of NH 2 from the current two lanes to four lanes.
The second work is black-topping Koubru Leikha-Tendongyang section of NH 2, and the third work is on NH 150. The amounts sanctioned by the Ministry for the three types of works are Rs 30 crores, Rs 37 crores and Rs 20 crores respectively.
The amount of Rs 20 crores sanctioned for NH 150 would be utilised in widening selected sections of the highway, added the official source.
