The Manipur State Kala Akademi today presented Akademi Fellows, Akademi Awards and Akademi Young Talent Awards for the year 2012 to different artistes at a solemn function held at Maharaja Chandrakirti auditorium, Palace compound.
Noted filmmaker Padma-shree Aribam Syam Sharma and Prof Thoidingjam Tombi attended the function as chief guest and president respectively.
Akademi Fellows which carry a citation, a kokyet (traditional headgear), a shawl and Rs 1 lakh each were awarded to Oinam Bira-mangol and Ratan Thiyam.
The winners of the Akademi Awards, which carry a citation, a shawl and Rs 50,000 each, are Shijagurumayum Noyonsakhi (dance), RK Nabindra (dance), Sagolsem Kriti (dance), Hijam Gourasing (music), Thokchom Ibohal (music), Soibam Thoiba (music), Pukhrambam Khogendra (theatre), Lousigam Mangi-chand (shumang leela), Ningthoujam Nipamacha (goura leela), Puthem Mangi (thang-ta), Hanjabam Tombi (other forms of art - mime), Naoroibam Binoy (other forms of art - moibung), Tonna Kabuini (tribal culture), M Ashoohrii Basena (tribal culture), Dr Nongmaithem Tombi (literature - critical work), Dr Makhonmani Mongsaba (literature - creative work), Dr Soibam Ibocha (literature - translation), Golmei Gandumpu (fine arts) and Thangjam Ashwinikumar (fine arts) .
Akademi Young Talent Awards which carry a citation, a shawl and Rs 25,000 each were handed over to Manju Elangbam (dance), Keisham Jadu (music), Sagolsem Sana (shumang leela), Leitanthem Dhamendro (thang-ta), Aribam Devabarta (other forms of art - mime) and LN Khupsualal Aimol (tribal culture) .
Speaking at the occasion, Aribam Syam Sharma said that Manipur has a rich and age-old tradition of art and culture.
With an aim to protect and preserve this tradition and to encourage the Gurus and artistes, Manipur State Kala Akademi has been conferring them with different awards.
As such, the State has been able to preserve its rich cultural heritage, the noted filmmaker said.
He also exhorted the young artistes to show respect to Gurus and elders.
Padmashree Ratan Thiyam and Dr N Tombi also spoke at the occasion.
