Imphal, October 08 2012:
Vehemently condemning the attack on the family members of Songlianlal Hangshing, an MPTC candidate from Churachandpur AC in the 10th Legislative Assembly election, by armed miscreants yesterday resulting in the injury of his wife and son, the Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress (MPTC) has demanded a CBI probe into the case.
The wife and son of Songlianlal Hangshing were injured after armed cadres of ZRA attacked them at their residence in Langol yesterday.
Addressing a press meet at the MPTC office located at Hotel Excellency, party president Kim Gangte and Spokesperson, RK Shivachandra lambasted the Government for not providing security to Songlianlal, who is said to received many threats since the election was over.
Stating that many former Congress MLAs and candidates in the last election were provided security till date, the MPTC leaders said the Trinamool Congress candidate also deserves security protection while also alleging the CM and Home Minister of 'discriminating' the MPTC candidate.
Questioning whether the CM is working only in the interest of the Congress Party or the people of Manipur, the MPTC leaders said that all citizens of the State deserve protection.
While drawing the attention of the Governor in this regard, the MPTC leaders demanded that security should be provided to Songlianlal.
Demanding a CBI probe into the case, the MPTC leaders said the matter would also be highlighted to the party's high command.
Wondering how cadres of armed group engaged in SoO pact could venture in Langol area where the incident took place yesterday, the MPTC leaders also categorically asked why the Government is not monitoring them.
Terming the incident as an attempt to extinguish all the family members of Songlianlal, the party leaders questioned whether non-Congress candidates are restricted to contest election.
The Government should not do whatever it likes, they cautioned while adding that the party would apprise the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister on the matter.
Meanwhile, the Kuki Students' Organisation, Imphal Branch has registered strong condemnation over the attack carried out in the residence of Songlianlal Hangshing, who is also the Principal of St Peter High School, NGV, Imphal.
