Imphal, September 03 2018:
As a part of its continuous drive to monitor the alarming influx of non locals into the State, JCILPS caught and detained 12 non locals without proper documents from Waheng Leikai bus parking today, at around 3.30 pm.
Speaking to media persons at JCILPS office at Sega Road Thouda Bhabok Leikai, its media in-charge Waikhom Rabi said that the detained non locals came to Manipur for working at the railway project at Noney.
When questioned, the individuals claimed that they were from Dhubri district, Assam.
They also had expired Aadhaar cards as well as an NRC which contained all the details about their siblings, Rabi explained and added that the detained non-Manipuris were all Bengali Muslims and did not even speak proper Hindi.
Pointing out that JCIEPS has been working tirelessly to curb the influx of non Manipuris in the State, he informed that the transporters have also been repeatedly told not to bring in any individuals without proper verification.
However, it is disappointing that JCILPS was still able to detain 12 non Manipuris without proper ID proofs today, he added.
Urging the State Government to expedite the necessary process for successful implementation of the Bill which was passed in the Assembly for the protection of the indigenous people, Rabi demanded the Government to begin necessary verification of the non-Manipuri labourers coming into the State as well as provide labour cards at the earliest.
Adding that steps will be taken up to verify the non Manipuris working in various shops, Rabi mentioned that those who do not possess a labour card will be taken as illegal immigrants.
He also urged all the rent owners and landlords to properly verify the non Manipuris living in their establishments.
Rabi further warned that one cannot bring in any non-Manipuri labourers without permission from the association and urged the indigenous population to remain alert and wise.
