Senapati, September 03 2018:
The Naga Women Union (NWU) has appealed every Naga family in "south Nagalim" to hoist white flags from September 8 .
"It is our prayer and appeal to every Naga family in south Nagalim to solemnly hoist white flags in their homes from September 8, 2018, to proclaim to the world our yearning for lasting peace, and also, as a sign of our resistance to the violent protest against our rights as a people" .
The NWU also said that it is also to reach out within and without with the message of peaceful co-existence for a shared future and early solution for Indo-Naga peace process.
The NWU said that it is calling out to the "hearts and homes across the Naga Hills at this critical time, when we as a people are faced with aggression and antagonism in our journey to live in peace and dignity as a people" .
According to the NWU, as mothers, sisters and daughters, they have witnessed and experienced enough of violence and they do not wish the same for their children.
"We earnestly wish to broker the lack of space for dialogue and understanding within and without," it added.
The NWU added that it strongly believes that a shared future in which "we can grow together can only be built by respecting each other's aspirations and appreciating each other's difficulties" .
The NWU also said that, at this juncture "between a past that chains us and a future that seeks to embrace us all, we do not wish for any force to disturb the peace efforts and undermine our ardent desire for lasting and redeeming peace" .
The NWU added that it wants to resist all forms of oppression by demonstrating peace.
Thus, the Naga Women Union said it is embarking on this journey by hoisting white flags across the "Naga Hills in south Nagalim" so that history may remember the story of Naga women, when white flags flutter in Naga homes across the land in response to the "hostility against our political journey to reclaim peace" .
