With the economic blockade called by MEELAL coming into force from midnight last night, one Tata Sumo plying on the Moreh-Imphal route was damaged by MEELAL activists for violating the economic blockade.
Sounding a stern warning against all transporters violating the economic blockade call, MEELAL in a statement today said that despite the imposition of the blockade some trucks left Imphal today.
The registration number of all the trucks have been noted down by MEELAL activists, said the statement and warned that owners and drivers that in future if anything untoward occurs then they should bear the responsibility.
The statement further said that MEELAL activists burnt over 10 thousand Manipuri books written in Bengali script at Babupara in front of the residences of the Ministers and MLAs today at about 5 pm.
In all eight persons drawn from both the hills and valley including five women were arrested during the agitation today, said MEELAL and added that the number of activists arrested so far now stands at 389.
