Imphal, January 27:
The prolonged wait of 50 years for a water supply scheme in Kachai village under Chingai block still continues as the scheme is incomplete even today.
This was discovered during a visit to Kachai village by a team of ICHAM (Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur) on January 17, conveyed ICHAM in a statement.
In addition to the fact that the scheme remains incomplete, the pipes procured for it at the site are of lowest grade.
Even as the Chief Secretary, Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul district and the Director Vigilance have been approached to take up essential steps for early completion of the scheme last year, nothing concrete has been initiated to address the plight of the villagers till date except for an inspection visit by a team of Vigilance officials in October last year.
ICHAM further alleged that indent of 600 GI pipes worth Rs 4,41,750 have been found already sanctioned even as construction work of the water supply scheme remains suspended.
Stating that Kachai villagers are facing acute shortage of water, ICHAM reiterated its appeal for completion of the water supply scheme at the earliest.
The water supply scheme for the 4000 strong inhabitants of the village was taken up under the DRDA.
