Imphal, May 11:
Tamenglong-based Zeliangrong social and student bodies have threatened to launch agitation in case its demand on varied issues are not honoured by the Government within 15 days with immediate effect.
Informing that an ultimatum had been submitted to the Chief Minister O ibobi Singh yesterday, a joint statement issued by the Zeliangrong Women Union, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Zeliangrong Youth Front and District Level Development Co-ordinating Team (DCT) Federation reminded that its charter of demands had already been placed before the Chief Minister through the Tamei AC MLA Awangbou highlighting atrocities committed by security force personnel and demand for compensation.
Alleging that on February 11, 2008 this year personnel of 165 A Camp Territorial Army posted at Oinamlong village physically harassed president and members of Oinamlong Women Society by Havildar Urrang Singh under the command of the unit's Post Commander Lieut.Sandip, the bodies demanded that necessary action be taken up to compensate the harassment victims.
Its other demands include shifting of security forces who are at present reportedly occupying Churches and its offices, schools and PHC buildings along the National Highway 53 and shifting of all army posts from villages located along the highway stretch at places identified and resolved by aggrieved village authorities.
Cautioning that failure to evoke positive response from the side of the State Government would constrain the bodies to enforce different forms of agitation including indefinite bandh along NH-53, the Zeliangrong organisation also insisted that any untoward incident arising out of the issue should be the responsibility of the Govt.
