New Delhi, October 09 2010:
Even as the Khuga Dam multi-purpose project is undergoing beautification process for its official inauguration, delegates of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) on Khuga Dam, Churachandpur, are currently camping in the National capital to apprise the central leadership about their concern over its sub standard and incomplete construction.
According to a delegate member, the beautification work is merely a white wash, a skin deep appearance adding that "It is a camouflage" just to deceive the central leaders.
The delegates comprise of Rampana, Chairman and Lalpu Hangshing, Secretary, JAC along with Zomi Council and Kuki Inpi representative, Kamkholal and Seipao Misao.
They told The Sangai Express that there would be no grudge if the work was fully completed, including clearance of pending bills and compensations.
It may also be noted that contractor's bill amounting to Rs 16.2 crore is still pending, while only one third (1/3) of compensation amount have been disbursed.
The amount received as compensation by the affected families are Rs 3000, though the actual amount is Rs 30,000 .
Delegates have reportedly met Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj and Minister for Rural Development Agatha Sangma.
They will be meeting several other ministry officials, including Union Minister of Water Resource.
A consultation meet will also be held with Delhi student bodies.
A memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister to intervene, stating that the Khuga Dam practically has no benefit for the people of Churachandpur, as such it will be unbecoming of the PM to inaugurate it.
Lamenting that several attempts to raise their concern through the media have proved futile, and the preparation for the high profile inauguration is on in full swing under tight security cover, "we have come to the capital to place our concern before the central leadership and the Delhi Manipur diaspora," said a delegate.
