The 61st Territorial Army Day was observed at Gandhi Memorial Hall today.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and GOC of 57 Mountain Division, Maj Gen DS Hooda were the presidium members of the function.
Speaking at the occasion, O Ibobi lauded the efforts of the Territorial Army (TA) in maintaining law and order in the State.
Ibobi said that TA was known as Auxiliary Force or Indian Territorial Force when the Government passed the Indian Territorial Army Bill in 1920 .
Ibobi informed the gathering that Indian Parliament passed Territorial Army Act in 1947. C Rajagopalchari, the first Governor General of India, formally inaugurated the Force, he added.
Commanding Officer of 165 TA, Col George Jacob while speaking in the function said that the Unit has organised various events in connection with the 61st Territorial Army Day.
A series of programmes was kick started with a medical camp at Nungba in which 400 people were given treatment on October 7 last.
