Imphal, February 04:
The Part-time Lecturers Association of Government Colleges has rejected the agreement signed between representatives of the association and officials of the directorate of education (u) on January 30, 2002 regarding their ongoing cease work strike, and has vowed to intensify their stir.
A statement issued by the association said that a decision in this regard was taken during a general body meeting of the association held yesterday at GP Women's College.
The statement said the decision was taken on the grounds that the state government is filing an appeal seeking review of the Gauhati High Court's order to extend the revision of pay to existing part-time lecturers.
It also charged that the government was planning to withdraw the policy for part-timers framed in 1999, and to discontinue the part-time lecturers and re-engage them as guest lecturers.
In this regard, the association has submitted another charter of demands to the commissioner, higher education, urging for implementation of the part-timers' policy in toto, implementation of revision of pay with effect from January 1, 1998 for existing part-time lecturers, and for ensuring regular payment of pay and allowances.
The Manipuri Students Federation MSF has meanwhile urged responsible authorities in the PR govt to look into the more than half month old agitation by the part time lecturers in the state.
A release of the federation said the 19 day old agitation of 590 college and 365 higher secondary pan timers has caused a serious impact in the functioning of schools and colleges.
Institutions where part timers were the main educationists have completely stopped functioning, said the release.
