The C Upendra commission of inquiry, which was constituted to look into the facts and circumstances of the occurrences of June 18 last year, has submitted its final report.
The report of the commission was handed over to the state chief secretary by the chairman of the commission, retired sessions judge C Upendra, today.
While the recommendations made by the commission have not been disclosed, the report incorporates the statements of witnesses, the sequence of events leading to and all the facts regarding the burning of the state Assembly secretariat and a number of other buildings, and the firing that resulted in the eventual death of 14 persons and injury to many others.
The commission was also to inquire into whether adequate measures of law and order had been taken prior to the occurrence of the June 18 incidents, and further to make recommendations on the corrective remedies and measures for preventing a re-occurrence of the incident.
The commission, which was constituted by the state government on 14th July 2001, conducted regular hearings in connection with the June 18 incident beginning from September last year.
Altogether 86 witnesses testified before the commission during the four months of its inquiry, including four witnesses of the state home department, five of the CRPF, one of the AMSU, one of the UCM, five of the injured, one witness of the AMUCO and 16 witnesses of the commission.
It is also learnt that the commission also charged with looking into the July 20 firing incident at Uripok; resulting in the killing of one person, will be submitting its report on the incident after the Assembly elections.
