The Food and Civil Supplies Department has submitted a proposal to the State Government to upgrade it into a major department.
Towards this end the proposal prayed for the creation of the post of an Additional Director and appointment of a legal advisor, informed an official source today.
Simultaneously PCS has also approached the Government to set up a 10,000 metric ton capacity godown each at Jiribam, Moirang and Kakching under the 10th Plan.
The department urged the Government to take up the work so that it is completed within 2002-2007.To upgrade the department and to construct the godowns PCS has proposed to the Government to earmark a sum of Rs 870 lakhs under the 2002-2003 annual budgets.
FCS also proposed to the Government to set aside a sum of Rs 1.04 lakhs under the 2002-2003 annual budgets for the district unit machineries.
Proposals to set up an office each at Churachandpur and Tamenglons was also mooted by FCS.
The department further urged the Government to earmark a sum of Rs 370 lakhs during the 10th Plan to enable it set up separate offices for its District Supply Officers in the 8 district headquarters and also to purchase one jeep each for the DSOs.
The proposal also mentioned the need to set aside Rs 60 lakhs for inducting 36 more staff, purchasing 6 jeeps, one car and to set up a mini workshop at the State headquarters.
The State Planning Board has taken up the process of compiling the proposals put forth by the FCS and other Departments and the same will be forwarded to the Governor for finalization.
