Four persons including one woman were killed while many others sustained injuries when two buses coming from opposite directions had a collision in Thoubal district today.
While one victim died on the spot three others reportedly succumbed to their injuries at a local hospital.
The tragic road accident took place near village Bijaypur under Kakching police station along Imphal-Moreh route at 1.30 pm today.
Reports reaching here said a passenger bus coming from Moreh side allegedly rammed into another passenger bus coming from the opposite direction.
The bus coming from Imphal reportedly fell into the roadside ditch after it was hit while the other bus overturned.
The deceased woman is identified as Indrani Devi of Pallel while another deceased is identified as Rev NS Mochao Maring, pastor of Khunbi village, adds Our Chandel Correspondent.
One of the injured has been admitted to the RIMS hospital.
In another road accident two women were injured when a motorcycle hit them on Sagolband road near Yengkhom Leirak yesterday.
The injured are identified as Sobha (35) and Sanatombi (38).In yet another accident three persons were admitted to the RIMS hospital after they were hit by a police vehicle at Litan along Imphal-Ukhrul road yesterday.
One 68 year old man was injured when a vehicle belonging to the Manipur Riffles hit him at MG Avenue this morning.
He has been admitted to the hospital.
When asked about the rising cases of road accidents along the highways due to high speed by passenger buses the DGP AA Siddique said it is very difficult to check the speed of the vehicles along the national and State highways.
On the fitness of the buses on the roads the police chief said the fitness certificate is issued by the Transport Directorate.
