Imphal, April 30:
Along with taking out a protest march decrying the alleged incident of raping an 11-year old minor girl student boarder by the founder of the All Backward Scheduled Caste Welfare School at Keirao Bitra, a memorandum has been submitted to the Chief Minister today demanding legal action against the culprit.
Organised under the aegis of All Manipur Scheduled Caste Students' Union, the protest march commenced from Iboyaima Shumang Leela Sanglen at Palace Compound with participants carrying placards and festoons inscribed with slogans like 'Punish school founder Mutum Jadumani and all others involved in violating the chastity of an innocent minor girl student', 'Save the lives of girl students' 'One who shows disrespect to students is an enemy of the society', etc.
The protestors were, however, stopped on their way by the police at Pureiromba Khongnangkhong.
Afterward, a team led by general secretary of All Manipur Scheduled Caste Students' Union Nandakumar was allowed to go and submit a seven-point memorandum to the Chief Minister through his Private Secretary.
The points raised in the memorandum include taking up legal action against Jadumani and all others related to the incident of raping the girl student, termination of Jadumani and his wife from Government services, adequate security to girl students belonging to SC, to ensure that the academic career of the students fled from the school is not affected, dissolution of the school and its board with immediate effect and collective stand of the people on such issues, etc.
Talking to mediapersons after submission of the memorandum, Nandakumar informed that the issue has been discussed with other student bodies of the State and in case of failure on the part of the Government to give a positive response to the demands, various intense agitations would be launched.
