Acknowledging the fact that the staple diet of the people of Manipur is rice and that many are poor, the proscribed PREPAK today declared, ahead of the World Labour Day, that it would stop taking its quota of rice from tomorrow.
Greeting the people on the occasion of World Labour Day, spokesperson of the outfit, Tiger said that it will also stop taking its share of kerosene as it is essential to the people, particularly from the economically lower strata.
As such the outfit urged all the agents and dealers concerned to work sincerely and honestly and make the essential commodities available to the people at its right price.
The outfit also appealed to the FCS to review its decision of fixing the price of one quintal of AAY rice at Rs 337, BPL at Rs 610.80 and APL at 856, which was announced on December 7 last year.
The actual price of the APL rice per quintal should be Rs 830 instead of Rs 856, said the outfit and added that the FCS Department has also fixed the amount for the bill at Rs 26 while the actual rate should Rs 6 only.
The spokesperson further pledged that PREPAK will stop all donation drive from the public from October 9, 2008 .
