Imphal, April 30:
As installation work of the Solar Power Obstruction Light (SOPL) is still incomplete, the date for experimental night landing at Tulihal Airport has been deferred.
Earlier, a landing test was scheduled to be held at Imphal airport in the night time during April.
However, an official of the Transport Department informed The Sangai Express that construction works of approach roads and security barracks are going on expeditiously at Langjing hills, Nongmai-ching hills, Phunal Maring hills, Chingphu hills and Heibok hills.
According to the instruction of the State Government, the PWD is responsible for constructing approach roads to the summit of these hills while the Police Housing Corporation is looking after construction barracks for security personnel.
An official of the Airport Authority of India (AAI) informed that a test landing at Tulihal in night time will be conducted once the installation of SPOLs is completed atop the five hills.
Earlier, it was targeted to complete construction of approach roads and security barracks within the current month.
Till date, the construction works being taken up by the PWD and Police Housing Corporation is nearing completion at Langjing hills.
Nevertheless, the State Government is on an over drive to complete the construction of roads and barracks at the five other places by next month.
As installation of night landing facility and upgradation of Imphal airport to international standard is on the priority agenda of the SPF Government, the Chief Secretary is directly monitoring the ongoing work every week, disclosed the official.
A joint meeting will be held at the conference hall of the Chief Secretary with the officials of PWD, Transport Department and Police Housing Corporation on the progress of the road and barrack construction work on April 30, he said.
