Mass Covid vaccination drive conducted at Maram Centre village

In an effort to save lives amid the increasing trend of COVID-19 infection in the second wave, Maram Centre village in Senapati district has initiated a Mass Covid vaccination drive to become the first 100 percent vaccinated village in the district as well as in Manipur.
The vaccination drive was carried out with the support of Maram PHC, MO incharge, Dr Anthony and Senapati DIO, Dr Peter.
Briefing media persons, Alphones Daniel, Maram Centre Covid Task Force convenor stated that the villagers are targeting for 100 per cent vaccination for Covid-19.He stated that it was a very challenging task as most of the villagers in the area were influenced by the rumours of uncertainty regarding the Covid vaccine's side effects and were sceptical about taking the vaccine.
Maram Centre village under Senapati district is reportedly one of the most vulnerable village as the two National Highways: Asian Highway-1 (NH-2) & NH-129 (A) (Maram-Peren Road) and educational institutions including Don Bosco Hr Sec School, Don Bosco College, etc are at the proximity of the village.
The approximate population of the village stands at about 1200, out of which 700-800 people reportedly belong to the age group 18 years and above.
Altogether, 370 beneficiaries were given the first dose of Covishield including 300 persons of the age group 18-44 years, 29 persons above the age of 45 years and 1 frontline worker.
Differently abled persons were also given the vaccine by visiting from door-to-door.
It may be mentioned that the beneficiaries were seated in different rows to see if there were any side effects after the vaccination.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Anthony, MO in charge, PHC Maram mentioned that the objective of the mass vaccination drive is to vaccinate all the people of the village and achieve a 100 percent vaccination rate.
Dr Anthony lauded the responsible leaders of the village for mobilising the whole villagers to get vaccinated as it is the most effective way to combat the coronavirus while stating that the success of the drive was through the initiative of the Maram Centre Public leaders, Village authority and prompt response from the villagers.
Meanwhile, the Maram Students Union (MKS) extended their appreciation to the villagers and the medical team for their initiative.
The student body also inspected PHC Maram and expressed concern over the lack of medical equipment in the PHC.
