CM bats for non-conventional energy

Following introduction of solar water hea-ters in the State at the initiative of MANIREDA, the Govern-ment has succeeded in saving 5 MW of conventional electrici-ty, stated Chief Minister O Ibobi.
Speaking as chief guest at the Renewable Energy Day observed today at MFDC Auditorium, Palace Compou-nd under the aegis of MANI- REDA, Ibobi noted that more and more countries have star-ted focusing their attention to renewable sources of energy in view of the global climate change.
Apart from saving 5 MW of conventional electricity after MANIREDA distributed 3441 solar water heaters to the public which otherwise would be used in heating/warming water, MANIRE-DA has successfully installed solar home lighting systems in 200 villages across the State.

Moreover, benefits of solar energy have been made available in police stations, DC offices, SDO offices and common service centres.
Calling upon all the people to avail the benefits brought about by MANIREDA, Ibobi appealed not to indulge in thievery of solar energy based electronic equipment.
In his welcome address, MANIREDA Director L Manglem said solar lighting systems were first installed in interior places where conventional electricity was not avai- lable.
Now people living in urban areas may avail the same facility.
Systems ranging from Rs 2000 to Rs 60,000 in price may be obtained through banks and they would provide 40 per cent subsidy in any of these products, Manglem stated.
The Renewable Energy Day observance was presided by Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar with CAF&PD Commissioner Y Thamki-shore as the guest of honour.
Later solar home light system and solar power packs were distributed to 63 student beneficiaries who scored outstanding marks in the class X examinations 2013 conducted by BSEM and CBSE, and also to 41 orphanage centres, old age homes and destitute homes.
