IPPI to cover 3,14,286 children

Directorate of Family Welfare organised the launching and media sensitization of National Immunization Day (IND) and Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) programme, at the conference hall of the Directorate today.
The event was attended by Director, Family Welfare, Dr K Rajo, State Nodal Officer (Immunization) Dr Th Nandakishore and Additional Director, Salamat Ullah, as the presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr K Rajo said that today is the launching day of IPPI and the programme will be conducted for three days across the Nation.
He narrated that the last case of polio was reported in India in 2011 and on March 27, 2014, India was declared polio free.
However, polio cases are still present in other neighbouring countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Bangladesh etc.
111 cases of polio were reported in 2018 in Pakistan, 26 in Afghanistan, 8 in Myanmar.
As polio is active in these countries, it might come to India again.
As long is polio is not eradicated from every corners of the globe, the polio immunization programme is necessary, he explained.
Dr K Rajo informed that IPPI will cover 3,14,286 beneficiaries at over 3205 booths.
12,820 facilitators and 641 supervisors are also covered by the IPPI, he said, appealing all the people specially the remote village chiefs or headmen, NGOs and parents to bring their children and get vaccinated from polio.
Polio is incurable if once affected, he said.
On the other hand, State Nodal Officer (Immunization) Dr Th Nadakishore said that the last polio patient was detected in India on January 13, 2011.Many children were vaccinated from polio during the event.
