Imphal, April 07 2012:
Justice Altamas Kabir of the Supreme Court of India inaugurated the functioning of the newly constructed High Court Complex of Imphal Bench of Gauhati High Court today.
In the meantime, as rain god played spoilsport, the glittering function held at Chingmeirong, Imphal had to wind up informally after heavy rainstorm abruptly grounded the function's makeshift hall.
The inaugural function was also attended by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, Justice AK Patnaik of the Supreme Court of India, Justice Gyan Sudha Misra of the Supreme Court of India and Justice Jasti Chelameswar of the Supreme Court of India.
Speaking at the occasion, O Ibobi said the demand for a separate High Court for Manipur is justified.
He assured of the State Government's full cooperation towards the setting up of a separate High Court in Manipur and urged the Judges for their support.

Stating that the new High Court building is one of the major milestones the State has achieved since attaining statehood, he said creation of a new High Court Complex would pave the way for early setting up of separate High Court of Manipur which would enable the people of the State to have easy access to justice.
While describing the day as a landmark in the institutional history of 'justice delivery' in Manipur, the CM also assured that he would look into the proposal for creation of 132 additional posts for the Imphal Bench of Gauhati High Court and grant necessary concurrence at the earliest.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, who left the spot minutes after delivering his speech, was lucky enough to avert scuttling of fellow VVIPs and VIPs who attended the function as rain-god played spoilsports, marring the function.
Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Lokeswore, MLAs, Chief Justices of Gauhati High Court, Andhra High Court and Kerala High Court, Judges of Gauhati High Court and members of Bar fraternity were also present on the occasion.
Judge of Gauhati High Court, N Koteshwar could not propose his vote of thanks as the rainstorm sent the gatherings helter-skelter.
It may be recalled that the High Court Complex was inaugurated by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on December 3 last year.
Construction work of the complex started in 2007 and its project cost is around Rs 130 crore.
The State Government provided the land besides contributing 10 percent of the project cost.
