Vice president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee T Gunadhaja passed away today at about 10 am.
He was 68.From Uripok Sorbon Kabrabam Leikai, Gunadhaja was suffering from bone cancer and he was brought back home from RIMS hospital yesterday where he had been undergoing treatment since December 6.However as his condition worsened, he was rushed to the hospital today morning but passed away on the way.
Before he passed away, Chief Minister O Ibobi, who is also the president of MPCC (I) visited the ailing Congress leader at his residence today morning.
The doctor treating Gunadhaja was also present when Gunadhaja passed away.
The late Gunadhaja was elevated to the post of vice president of MPCC in September last year and since then he had been in charge of general administration, Cell, information and publicity, panchayat, Zilla Parishad, municipality, nagar panchayat and party organisation (valley).
Earlier he served as the general secretary of the party and edited the Congress mouth piece Simanta Patrika.
He also served as the spokesman of the party, Gunadhaja successfully contested the 1990 election from Uripok AC and served as the Co-operation Minister under Rishang Keishing.
He was also appointed as the Deputy Chairman of the State Planning Commission.
The mortal remains of Gunadhaja was brought to Congress Bhawan where the Chief Minister laid in offering floral tributes.
Cabinet Ministers including , Th Debendra, Gaikhangam, Govindas Konthoujam, Congress MLAs and workers also turned up to pay their last respect to the departed soul.
The Congress will be in mourning for one week.
