Imphal, August 17:
The Governor and Chancellor Ved Marwah has assured that an inquiry committee would be constituted to look into the charges levelled by the striking Manipur University Teachers Association against the VC Prof H Tombi Singh.
The Governor told a delegation of the MUTA led by its president Dr Th Ratankumar Singh today that a probe body would be constituted to look into the affairs of the university.
The Governor further assured that the report of the inquiry committee would be submitted within one month or so and he would act as per the findings of the inquiry.
As sought by the Governor the MUTA would suggest areas and charges to be probed by the committee.
The MUTA, which is on a cease work strike since August 14 is demanding removal of the VC, charging that the overall condition of the university is on the decline under the leadership of the present VC.
Before meeting the Governor the MUTA delegation also met the Higher Education Secretary IS Laishram today.
The delegation briefed the Secretary on the overall situation of the university and their demands.
Meanwhile, the VC wrote a letter yesterday to the MUTA urging it to call off its cease work strike.
The letter addressed to the MUTA president urged the teachers to call off the agitation and extend cooperation in the smooth functioning and to bring about all round development of the university.
Terming the charges levelled by the teachers as baseless the VC denied the charge that there has been decline of the academic milieu of the university during his period.
