Imphal, August 17:
The Manipuri Students Federation (MSF) has withdrawn the counter economic blockade on National Highway 39, proposed to be launched from tomorrow morning, upon the appeal of the All Manipur United Clubs Organization (AMUCO) and womens organisations.
This was informed in a release by Pheiroijam Nando Luwang, president of the MSF, today.
The MSF general secretary H Ashrijit Luwang had yesterday announced in a release from Guwahati the proposed economic blockade from 6 am tomorrow in Assam in reply to the ongoing blockade on NH-39 launched by some Naga organisation.
The blockade had also been proposed connecting Imphal with Ukhrul, Senapati, Chandel and Tamenglong.
The AMUCO, meanwhile, fervently appealed to all the concerned organisations including the MSF to call off economic blockades and counter blockades in view of the tremendous hardships the already aggrieved ordinary people are facing due to blockades.
In an appeal letter to the MSF, the AMUCO president, Ito Tongbram, said the economic blockades and counter blockades would not only aggravate the unbearable burden of the ordinary people who are fighting a battle for survival but also estrange people from people making these moves counter productive.
The release said Manipur is rife with problems already with lakhs of unemployed educated people fighting a grim and uphill battle to eke out a living.
Having no alternative left, most of the educated youth are running petty workshops.
However, due to constricting circumstances, they are again on the brink of succumbing, said the AMUCO adding even the government employees are facing unprecedented crises due to non-payment of their salaries.
Under these circumstances, rather than engaging ourselves in all kinds of activities that leave their adverse consequences on ourselves, we should unite, identify and address our problems together.
