Imphal, September 12:
Two suspected underground activists were killed while at least four BSF personnel were injured in two separate shootouts today.
According to police sources, two suspected militants of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (Oken group) were killed in an encounter with police commandos in Keibul Awang Leikai (Sangram); about 10 kilometers south of Moirang at around 5:45 am this morning.
The sources said at least seven or eight suspected KYKL activists were spotted by a team of Bishnupur district police commandos, and when challenged to stop they opened fire at the security personnel.
Two of the militants were killed in the resulting exchange of fire.
One 9 mm pistol with five rounds of ammunition, an M-20 magazine with four live rounds, and a wireless set were recovered from the Possession of the deceased.
The bodies of the two men are unidentified as yet.
They are being kept at RIMS morgue.
In a separate incident, at least four BSF personnel were reported wounded this evening in a shootout with unknown armed persons at Uchekon in Imphal east district late this evening.
Sources said a group of BSF personnel who were escorting BSF deputy commandant M Kunjo to his home at Ucheckon Leikon were fired upon by a large group of armed militants at a spot known as Puyam Mapa.
Four BSF jawans were wounded in the incident, though two suffered only minor injuries.
