State Health authorities have confirmed an attack of Viral Hepatitis in Churachandpur District with the reported death of two pregnant women due to Hepatitis E.Another 200 persons have been reported infected by the epidemics in the district.
Health authorities have however claimed to have contained the outbreak.
The Rapid Response Team of the Directorate of Health Services which was rushed to Churachandpur district to ascertain the outbreak of Kala Azar had reported that Hepatitis E has struck some parts of the district.
The report of the CMO Churachandpur, said that 200 persons have been suffering from the disease and two pregnant women have died in the Churachandpur District Hospital due to the disease.
A statement released by the State Health Education Bureau said that 115 persons from the affected villages of the Toibung, Molnom and Koite were screened and 42 were found suffering from Viral Hepatitis.
Twenty-four blood samples have been sent to the NICD for confirmation.
It may be recalled that the medical team was sent to Churachandpur after the BSF had expressed apprehension of the outbreak of Kala Azar in Churachandpur district.
One BSF jawan had died due to the disease.
The case of another jawan admitted to the RIMS had been confirmed as a viral attack.
Viral Hepatitis is an acute infection of the liver caused by six types of Hepatitis virus namely A, B, C, D, E and G.the State had earlier reported attacked of Hepatitis A and B.In majority of the cases, the infection is mild with only mild jaundice.
In more severe cases, the onset is usually sudden with fever, loss of appetite, feeling of general ill health and abdominal discomfort followed within a few days by Jaundice.
Hepatitis A and E viruses are transmitted be faeco-oral route through contamination of water and food.
Hepatitis B is transmitted from infected mother to the child in her womb, through infected needles and syringes, blood transfusion and sexual routes.
