Imphal, June 11:
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has requested the party high command to send a party observer to assess the political situation in the State within July first week.
The MPCC president O Ibobi Singh told this reporter that the MPCC had requested the party president to send an observer to look into the defection by MLAs for personal gains, the present law and order situation in the State, the worsening financial health and charges of links between some of the elected members and underground organizations.
Criticizing the hurriedly formed Progressive Democratic Alliance (PDA) the MPCC president flayed the leaders of the BJP and the Samata Party for their decision not to take part in Government formation leading to the imposition of the President's Rule in the State.
He said that this was an attempt to buy more time to work out a compromise formula between the BJP and the Samata.
The MPCC has informed the party's central leaders about BJP's acceptance of some Ministers in Nipamacha Government who were charged with having links with militants.
The MPCC also requested the leaders to raise all these issues during the next session of the Parliament, which will begin on July 23 after making an assessment of the real situation in the State, he said.
The MPCC has convened a joint meeting of the Congress, CPI, CPI (M), JD (S) and RJD on June 14 at the Congress Bhavan.
The joint meeting of the five political parties will review the present political situation and the prevailing law and order situation.
Ibobi further said that the demand of the Congress party was to dissolve the Assembly instead of keeping it under suspended animation to pave the way for bolding a fresh election.
The joint meeting will also discuss the issue.
The parties will also launch a campaign to mobilize public opinion by organizing rallies and dharnas.
