Imphal, May 26 2022:
With the World Health Organisation (WHO) pushing for recognising ASHA as workers, All India Trade Union Congress and All India ASHA Workers' Federation have made necessary preparations to prevail upon the union government for granting recognition of ASHAs as workers at national level.
Announcing this in a press meet held at Irabot Bhawan here on Thursday, All Manipur ASHA Workers' Union president Noarem Binodini pointed out that although the state cabinet had declared to provide incentives to ASHAs, no action has been taken up till date.
She also expressed strong resentment that the state government continues to ignore plight of ASHAs and scheme workers, after making use of them in difficult times.
Demanding payment of Rs 18,000 per month for ASHAs, Binodini questioned why the state government is unable to pay Rs 30'0 per month to scheme workers as uniform allowance.
Thus, she urged the state government to disburse the incentives and uniform allowances before the ASHAs and scheme workers are forced to agitate on the issue.
The press meet was also attended by ASHAs from different districts of the state.
