Oral Cancer awareness campaign begins

JB Health Care and Research Centre in collabo ration with Manipur Cancer Research Forum inaugurated a state-wide Oral Cancer awareness programme and Anti-Tobacco campaign at the Centre's premises, RIMS Road on Wednesday.
The inaugural function of the campaign, which will first be undertaken with the support of Thangmeiband Kendra Development Organisation (TAKDO), was attended by Thangmeiband MLA Kh Joykisan, Red Cross Society Manipur Chapter chairman Dr Y Mohen and TAKDO president Kh Nobo as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Joykisan lauded the initiative taken up by JB Health Care and Research Centre MD Dr Ranibala Yengkhom and sought everyone's support towards the campaign.
He then assured of extending all possible help to the truly impoverished families who have no means of getting the necessary treatment for cancer.
Remarking that majority of the population consume harmful substances especially tobacco products and betel nuts, the MLA urged for concerted efforts of both the government and civil societies in preventing occurrence of cancer from abusing the said products.
He added that the clubs in Thangmeiband will be informed of the campaign and as such, urged for the public support in this regard.
In her speech, Dr Ranibala Yengkhom recount ed that the campaign was previously organised in some parts of the state and will be further organised in other parts as well.
The main objective of the campaign is to spread awareness about the oral cancer, early diagnosis for early treatment and understanding the harmful effects of tobacco products, she explained.
