AR foils smuggling of areca nuts, organises interactions

Troopers of Assam Rifles foiled cross border smuggling of Areca Nuts (Supari) in Kamjong district on Tuesday.
According to PRO IGAR (8), during checking of vehicles at PVCP Bungdung, the check post spotted suspicious movement of a truck with two individuals at 4 am loaded with some suspicious items.
On thorough search, a total of 144 bags of Areca Nuts worth Rs 8.64 Lakh were found being illegally smuggled from Namlee market to Ukhrul and further for black market sale, the PRO informed, adding that, the seized items were handed over to Forest Beat Office and the arrested duo namely Nashir Khan and Md Yafo of Yairipok in Imphal East district were handed to SHO Kassom Khullen for further investigation.
On the other hand, under the aegis of IGAR (South), AR troopers organised an Interaction and coordination meet with village authorities and locals of Sorde village in Kamjong district, the PRO informed, adding that, the discussion revolved around coordinating with security forces amidst the on-going IS situation.
While, a significant security meet was also organised at Larong with the attendance of 25 village chiefs and secretaries from Chandel district on Tuesday.
The discussion centred on enhanced cooperation and coordination with security forces, the PRO added.
