'Schools should be proactive in instilling patriotism among children'

Retired principal of DM College of Science Moirangthem Ibohal said that schools should be proactive in instilling sense of patriotism among children apart from their normal academic activities.
He was attending as chief guest of the annual day function of Trinity Public School, Mongshangei held at the school premises.
ZEO Wangoi's retired deputy director Sapam Gyaneshwar presided over the function, during which two students of the school, namely Thounaojam Rajeshkumar and Tayenjam Strella, who secured 14th and 18th position respectively in the HSLCE 2023, were felicitated and encouraged with cash prize of Rs 1 lakh each.
Other meritorious students and teachers with good performance were also felicitated at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibohal observed that education is beyond scoring high marks and getting good academic track records.
It is a medium through which a sense of patriotism could be instilled among the children so that they could become patriots and contribute for the welfare of the state or nation in whatever they do.
He also asked the meritorious students not to take the rewards as a simple token of their hard works but as an encouragement for striving to achieve their future goals.
School principal Moirangthem Madhuchandra recounted the history and performance of the school over the years as well as various incentives given to meritorious students.
He also said that the school is planning to upgrade into a higher secondary school in the coming years.
