AR units organise tree plantation drives

44 Assam Rifles of 22 Sector organised a plantation drive 'Van Mitra Abhiyan' at Tamenglong town and various other parts of the district.
According to PIB Defence, 22 Sect AR commander kick started
the 'Van Mitra Abhiyan' by planting a sapling at Tamenglong town followed by personnel of the unit planting fresh 1100 saplings.
One of the objectives of the drive was to spread awareness among locals and troops about importance of trees and also of the secondary advantages acquired like prevention of soil erosion and landslides.
Spreading awareness and working together with locals, Assam Rifles desires to initiate a change for sustainable development in the region, the PIB said in a release, adding that the commander stressed on the ownership of the saplings planted by each individual.
On the other hand, Somsai and Shangshak Battalions of Assam Rifles of IGAR (South) organised a joint tree plantation drive at remote villages of Ukhrul and Kamjong districts on Saturday.
The drive was organised with an aim to promote 'Go Green Initiative' and spread awareness about climate change and global warming amongst the troops, said a PRO IGAR(S) release.
As part of the initiative, troops and locals of Ukhrul and Kamjong districts along with DFO Ukhrul Forest division participated and saplings of various types were planted.
The locals and troops were also educated about the importance of trees in maintaining the ecological balance, it added.
