Imphal, May 13 2021:
Following detection of positive cases among TT drivers and helpers engaged in transporting fuel from outside the State, TT drivers and their helpers would be vaccinated against COVID-19 at RD Wing, Lamphelpat from tomorrow.
It is being speculated that there might be around five COVID-19 positive cases among TT drivers and helpers engaged in transporting POL and LPG.
If the speculation proves true, it would be necessary to subject all TT drivers and helpers to COVID-19 test.
Sources informed that five TT drivers have been tested positive.
One of them has already succumbed to the virus while two others are under home isolation.
One is undergoing treatment in a private hospital while the whereabouts of the fifth is unknown.

However, the sources could not give details of the COVID-19 positive TT drivers, their TT registration numbers and the transporters for whom they have been working.
The report that at least five drivers have been infected emerged after one driver was tested positive at Khatkhatti, Assam and he was not allowed to report at Malom depot.
Of the five TT drivers who are said to be Covid positive, two were found positive after test at Khatkhatti while another was tested positive at Tamenglong when he went there to unload fuel.
TT drivers and helpers generally cook food and share meals together as they wait for CRPF escorts at Khatkhatti.
As such, if five drivers are positive, there is a strong possibility of many other drivers and helpers getting infected by the virus, said the sources.
Given the unfolding situation, the 1400 or so drivers and helpers of IOCL are overwhelmed by a strong sense of self suspicion.
The situation demands urgent appropriate action from the side of the Government.
Notably, all passengers travelling from the direction of Imphal are subjected to COVID-19 test at Bhalok Lamkhai and 5th MR Gate and there is unconfirmed report that one driver was tested positive there.
