Chanura Leikol Day celebrated

Children of the Chanura Leikol, a home for desolate children celebrated the Chanura Leikol Day today at Khurai Laishram Leikai.
Talent show by children from different children homes namely Heisi Children Home, Mahila Kalyan Samiti Children Home and Carmel Jyoti Children Home marked the celebration programme.
Director of Department of Social Welfare, L Nabakishwar attended the celebration function as the chief guest while president of Universal Caring Mission (UNICAM) S Nando was the functional president.
Film actress Th Thoithoi Devi graced as the guest of honour.
Chanura Leikol is a foster home for children established by UNICAM in 2013 under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) of the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

Addressing the celebration, L Nabakishwar stated that the Department of Social Welfare will make surprise field visits and make inspections whether such homes are doing what they are supposed to do.
Further he requested the people who are in this field to give their valuable suggestions so that the department can take up fitting measures for the children.
Various popular film actresses of the State also attended the celebration.
Commenting on the works of Chanura Leikol, general secretary of UNICAM LC Somerendro stated that the Chanural Leikol Day is celebrated to make everyone aware that such home is there to take care of young orphaned children and attract sponsors and donors.
The home houses 43 children all studying in private institutions.
He alleged that there is no initiative in Government Schools for proper education for such children.
Observing such day with children of other homes will act as a platform to explore the hidden talents of the children and they get the chance to socialize with one another.
He urged the Director of Department of Social Welfare to take up steps and sanction necessary funds to the NGOs who are running such homes.
Among the invitees L Pishak stated that socialization of children through such exchange programme should be encouraged.
Pradeep Kumar expressed that flagship programmes under the ICPS needs to be implemented by the concerned State Department.
Encasement permit to the NGOs should be done away with by the State Department as it hinders the smooth functioning of the homes, he suggested.
Various entertainment programme by children of Chanura Leikol was also the highlight of the celebration.
