NLWC slams Govt order

Imphal, July 04 2015 : Taking strong exception to the constitution and appointment of Tribal Market Management Committee members through an order issued by Tribal Affairs and Hill Dept on June 24, the New Lambulane Welfare Committee (NLWC) has warned of launching intense forms of agitation including shutting down of the tribal market, unless the order is reviewed within a week.

Addressing a press meet today at Tribal Market Complex, New Lambulane, chair- man of NLWC, SL Paosei Vaiphei said that the Govt order regarding the constitution and appointment of Tribal Market Management/Welfare Committee members was in total violation of the established norms.

He said that the appointment was done with vested interest, without consulting the local apex body, NLWC, which has been assisting and extending maximum cooperation to the TA&H Dept right from the construction of the market complex; and in the maintenance and smooth functioning of the Tribal Market Complex since its inauguration in 2008 .

"To our shock, some of the market committee members nominated by the Government are fake, non-existent in the localities men- tioned against their names by the order," Paosei pointed out while accusing the TA&H Dept of trying to befool the public.

The order also did not mention the criteria for membership of the management committee or the tenure of the committee, he added.

As such, the NLWC and people of the area would never accept the order in any way, he asserted.

Demanding the authority concerned to review the order issued on June 24, Paosei said that NLWC, the apex tribal body of New Lambulane area, should be consulted in any matter involving people or matter within its jurisdiction.

NLWC in collaboration with other tribal apex bodies would launch intense forms of agitation including shutting down of the market if the Dept concerned fails to review the order within a week's time, Paosei warned.

Addressing the press meet, SP Morish Anal, vice-chairman of NLWC said that on earlier occasions, NLWC is consulted for appointment of the Tribal Market Management Committee members.

The supersession and overlooking of norms which were in practice since the inception is highly deplorable, he said.

The Dept concerned may scheme a way to shift the Tribal Market complex to another location if it is so skeptic about the conduct and integrity of NLWC, Morish Anal said.

Asserting that NLWC and people of the area are ready to go any length to meet their demand, Morish said the Dept concerned should be held responsible for any fallouts and eventuality arising out of it.

The NLWC has also submitted a memorandum to the CM, Dy CM, who is also in-charge of TA&H Dept, and other authorities concerned in this regard.

Nine nominee members with Principal Secretary (TAH&SC) as the chairman and Director of TAH&SC as member secretary are appointed as the members of the Tribal Market Management Committee through an order dated June 24 .
