Imphal, August 02 2021:
The Coordination Committee (CorCom) has saluted Olympic silver medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu for her iconic performance at Tokyo.
A press communique signed by media coordinator of CorCom also saluted the 4 Olympians from Kangleipak - MC Mary Kom (boxing); Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu (hockey); Shanglakpam Nilakanta (hockey) and Sushila likmabam (judo) and other athletes from the WESEA region - Tarundeep Rai in archery (Sikkim); Lovlina Borgohain in boxing (Assam) and Lalremsiami in hockey (Mizoram) for presenting the WESEA region to the the world in the biggest sporting stage of all.
However, it is a matter of great disappointment that athletes from WESEA region such as Manipur are unable to play for their motherlands, CorCom alleged and added that the joy of every Manipuri could have known no bound had the 4 Olympians from the State represented Kangleipak instead.
Today, the reward of all the hard work of the State athletes are being enjoyed by India, it alleged.
Saying that the victory of S Mirabai Chanu is a manifestation that no Nations, however strong, can repress any community or kingdom that has its own identity for long, CorCom asserted that Mirabai has given a ray of hope to the Nations/ communities who have lost their freedom.
Mirabai has also manifested that one can become successful, irrespective of one's background if one has the commitment and attitude of a winner, it said and maintained that youth of Manipuri can reach the pinnacle of success if nurtured well.
Saying that the success of Mirabai Chami is not only a fruit of her undertaking but also an outcome of the series of inspirations passed by her predecessors in the field of weight lifting such as Anita, Kunjarani, Sanamacha etc, the statement continued that Manipuris are nothing less in terms of intelligence, vigour and strength.
The CorCom further stated that her (Mirabai) defeat at the Rio Olympic 2016 was a stepping stone for her success.
Asserting that people of Kangleipak are indebted to the parents of Mirabai for guiding their daughter to the path of success despite all odds, CorCom also saluted the parents of the young champion.
Had Mirabai been raised in a patriarchal society or family, the story might have been different, CorCom reasoned and continued that Mirabai and the 4 Olympians from the State have demonstrated that Manipur, despite being a small State, is a capable State.
Continuing that India and her people are a hindrance to the development of WESEA region, the committee asserted that the majority of the Indians have a habit of discriminating people with unique features.
The committee also alleged that India is a male dominated country that doesn't recognise the value of women.
Despite its tall claim of uplifting the WESEA region, the country still continues to discriminate and suppress the inhabitants of the region.
Among uncountable events of discrimination, spitting betel juice and using foul language to the people is a reminder that India doesn't value the people of WESEA, it maintained and added that Manipur might have produced more players if it had existed independently.
