Flatly rejecting the claims of the proscribed PREPAK, the JAC formed in connection with the killing of Y Gopen took out a protest rally from Mayang Langjing to Lamshang police station raising slogans to condemn the killing today.
Later after the rally, a public meeting was held at Lamdeng Khunou Lampak where a number of resolutions were adopted.
The public meeting was presided by H Shyamkumar while Smt Achom Jillangambi Devi was the chief guest.
President of Mangal, M Indramani Singh, President of UPF, Th Mangi SIngh and secretary of Kounuleima Chanura Marup, Sunita Devi were the guests of honour at the public meeting.
At least 13 people representing different social and voluntary organisations addressed the meeting which took a serious note of the killing.
After minutely discussing the matter, the meeting adopted five resolutions.
The resolutions included, rejecting the claims and explanations given by the PREPAK for killing Gopen.
The meeting decided to appeal to all the authorities concerned to investigate the matter and fix responsibilities accordingly.
The meeting also categorically rejected all the blames laid by PREPAK against Gopen.
As such the outfit should publicly review its earlier explanations and give fitting punishments to the cadres involved in killing Gopen.
The Government of Manipur would be urged to provide the necessary ex-gratia and assistance to the bereaved family members of Gopen, the meeting further resolved.
The JAC would continue to launch a series of agitation until and unless a true report on the killing of Gopen is furnished, the meeting resolved.
Until and unless the killers are given exemplary punishment PREPAK would be boycotted, declared the resolutions.
Gopen was shot dead by gunmen after being called out from his house on the pretext of having some talks.
