Keeping with its main objective of promoting weavers, Apunba Kanglei Sinnaibi Lup (AKSIL) has introduced the Kiyam Weavers, Tailoring and Embroidery Co-operative Society and displayed the products of the Society to the people.
The function was attended by District Co-operative Officer, Thoubal Md Roshan Khan as chief guest, AKSIL president Gomti Leima as functional president and Councillor of Thoubal Municipal Council ward no.14 Basant as guest of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, Md Roshan Khan informed that there are over 5-6 lakhs registered Co-operative Societies in Manipur.
Among these there might be many which do not function and are being run by a few people.
However, after looking at the products of Kiyam Weavers, Tailoring and Embroidery Co-operative being displayed today, it is felt there is the need to encourage such Societies.
Gomti Leima said AKSIL has taken up the onus of promoting the introducing the weavers as the women weavers of the State have arrived at a stage where they could not even fix the rate of their own products and left the profession for good.
The main objective of AKSIL to encourage those women weavers to take up the profession once again and give them new hope.
There should not be any problem in marketing the products of the women weavers in Manipur.
People should be encouraged to used the products of our native women weavers, she noted.
Guest of honour of the function Councillor Basant and organising secretary of AKSIL Ranibala also spoke on relevant topics at the occasion.
The products of the Kiyam Weavers, Tailoring and Embroidery Co-operative Society were also displayed to the people as part of the function.
