Imphal, January 28:
Consequent upon the disclosure by police through the media that Mongshatabam Bharatngamba of Uripok Achom Leikai was killed by PREPAK cadres on January 7, a large number of social organisations have demanded a definite clarification from the outfit concerning the 'cold blooded' murder.
Speaking at a press meet at Manipur Press Club today, representatives of Nupi Samaj, Universal Mothers' Organisation, Tammee-Chingmee Apunba Lup, Uripok Achom Leikai Nupi Lup, Imphal West Women's Development Organisation, Uripok Achom Leikai Maning Meira Paibi, Iroishemba Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and Panthoibi Welfare Association Naoremthong observed that the involvement of PREPAK which has been waging an armed struggle for the welfare of people in the killing of Bharatngamba has created utter confusion among the people of Manipur.
While questioning the credibility of the police claim, the women organisations further asked whether it was the handiwork of some elements aimed at discrediting the names of armed outfits.
As such, PREPAK ought to come out with a definite clarification on the incident at the earliest through mass media, they demanded.
Saying that they respect PREPAK, the representatives maintained that they would not accept the custom of killing an individual without cross-checking his/her faults and without declaring the crimes committed.
They further asserted that they would not accept the custom of heaping charges posthumously.
Conveying deep concern over the spreading scourge of filial killing amongst the people of the State, the women leaders said that the mothers of the land would suspend any kind of public service if such fraternal killings are not stopped immediately and the armed outfits fail to assure not to indulge in such fraternal killings ever again.
They further appealed to all armed outfits to investigate and publish the facts behind the killing of Bharatngamba.
