Imphal, June 25:
State Unit secretary of the CPI (M) M Shamu today stated that the assurances of Prime Minister and the Home Minister would review the issues arising out of the ceasefire extension, is nothing but another ploy to hood wink the public of Manipur.
Instead of issuing false assurances the Centre should have taken the decision to revoke the extension of ceasefire from the soil of Manipur, he added.
Addressing media persons this evening, the Marxist leader said that the assurances of Prime Minister and Home Minister that the Centre would review the developments arising out of the ceasefire extension instead of revoking it will only add fuel to the anger of the general public.
Shamu further said the arrest of 12 AMSU volunteers including its president in connection with the June 18 uprising will never be able to quell the voice of the people and will not deter the movement to save the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Shamu said that no Central leadership has come to the State to take the stock of the situation even though 14 people were killed in the June 18 uprising.
This clearly shows the attitude of the Centre towards the people of this State, he added.
The CPI (M) will announce its future course of action after a meeting of the State Committee to be held in the next few days time, he informed.
On the other hand, BJP MLA Haobam Bhuban today stated that the assurance given by the Union Home Minister LK Advani had failed to address the moot point of re-examining the ceasefire boundary limits and had merely stated that the Centre would review the points arising out of the Naga ceasefire agreement.
