Nupi Lan greetings, wishes pour in

Governor Anusuiya Uikey has led in conveying her heartiest greetings and best wishes to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Nupi Lan Numit, which falls on December 12 .
Recalling the incidents of December 12, 1939, the Governor said in a statement that a large number of Manipuri women stormed the State Durbar Office demanding immediate stoppage of rice export.
Twenty-one women were injured by the bayonets and butts of soldiers' weapons on the day.
Stating that this historic event is remembered as Nupi Lan Numit, the Governor went on to assert that the women's revolt against the monopolistic administration signifies the importance of women in the State and their role in the society.
Thus, she appealed to the people of Manipur to follow the path of these brave Manipuri mothers who stood up against injustice and fought for their rights for a prosperous and peaceful State.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh has also extended his greetings on the auspicious Nupi Lan Numit which celebrates the courage, sacrifice and patriotism of Manipuri women.
In a statement, the Chief Minister paid tribute to the brave "Emas" of the State while adding that they are the pride and an important element of the Manipuri identity.
Joining in conveying his greetings, MAHUD Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh paid his respects to the courageous mothers of Manipur and urged people to remember their message that Manipuri society will never be subjugated.
