Jiribam, December 11 2023:
Expressing strong disapproval against the ongoing preparation to observe Nupilal separately by two different women's organisations in Cachar district of Assam, Women's Action Committee for Village Protection has appealed to the two organisations to reconsider their decision while informing that people will abstain from joining the observance if not united, and observe the historic day at their homes instead.
Addressing a press meet in this regard at Lakhipur Konthoujam Leikai on Monday, committee president Sunita Konthoujam said that different organisations in Cachar have been requesting the two organisations - All Manipuri Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (AMPAL) and All Assam Manipuri Women Meira Paibi Coordination Committee, to observe the historic day unitedly, since many years.
However, they have been refusing to accept the proposition and this year too, the two organisations are planning to observe the day separately.
Frustrated with the situation, and considering the present conflict in Manipur, Manipuris in Cachar are now considering to avoid the two observance and pay tribute to the courageous mothers of Manipur individually at their homes, she said.
She also called for unity among the Manipuris living in Assam and stand for a united Manipur.
Committee member Shyamolini Thokchom said that keeping in view of the volatile situation between the two main organisations, several people have filed complaints with the DC expressing possible violent altercation during the observance.
Consequently, the DC had instructed SP to deploy adequate security personnel to prevent any unwanted situation, she said while urging the general public to observe the day at their respective homes.
