Imphal, August 16 2022:
General strike/total shutdown called by different proscribed and armed organisations at different timings as part of boycott of India's Independence Day celebration severely affected normal life in Manipur on Monday.
Markets and business establishments in all district headquarters remained closed for the day while there was no passenger bus service including inter-state, inter-district and city service.
However, private vehicles could be seen plying in the twin capital districts with reports also received about movement of two-wheelers and other private vehicles operating in suburban areas.
To avert occurrence of unwanted incident during the strike/shutdown, police personnel were seen deployed along almost all the important roads of the state while checking and frisking at strategic locations in Imphal areas were intensified during the strike/shutdown.
No untoward incident, however, was reported from any part of the state during the strike/shutdown.
