Police act tough on Covid SOP violators

Sustaining the campaign to round up and penalise violators of Covid-19 guidelines issued by the government especially those who are misusing permission granted for essential services, police teams on Tuesday detained a number of individuals and released them after firm warning to uphold the safety protocols.
Interestingly, a police team detained a vehicle pasted 'pharmacy' label but carrying iron rods at Chingmeirong Khongnang Karak and some people who in the name of medical duty were found moving around.
All of them were released only after levying appropriate fine amount.
In a release, Covid-19 nodal officer IGP (Ops) E Priyokumar Singh informed that on Tuesday, 255 people were detained and fined Rs 1,01,950 for violating Covid-19 SOPs in various parts of the state.
Meanwhile, after a video went viral of a church programme conducted in violation of Covid-19 guidelines at Mankak village under Kakching police station, the church pastor who is also the village chief was summoned to the police station on Tuesday.
He was slapped Rs 4000 fine for the violation and cautioned against committing the same again.
