Environment Day observed in Tamenglong, Kangpokpi

Tamenglong, June 05 2021:
Tamenglong Forest Division along with the district administration observed World Environment Day by planting saplings at Tamenglong district headquarters lower ground.
The tree plantation programme was attended by ADM Kajagai Gangmei, Additional SP Kartik, SDO Paul Nangsha, SDPO Josiah Panmei, Honorary Wildlife Warden Nehemiah Panmei, RFO Joel Gangmei and Rainforest Club members with strict adherence to Covid-19 SOPs.
As part of the observance, photography competition was organised in two categories -mobile category for students and DSLR open for all.
In category-1, Riamguang Riamei of Tamenglong, J Kohpunii of Senapati and Rajiv Oinam of Imphal took first, second and third position respectively while in category-2, N Dilimbou Daimei of Tamenglong, Lambalmayum Kishorjit Meitei of Imphal and KC Sharma of Thoubal bagged first, second and third prize respectively.
The results of the photography competition in two categories were declared by the DFO Tamenglong Kh Hitler Singh.
A webinar was also held in connection with the World Environment Day by Rainforest Club, Corbett Foundation, IndiGo Reach, Tamenglong Forest Division, Mangolnganbi College and IBCN.
Tamei Sub Division HQ under Tamenglong Forest Division also observed World Environment Day during which Asenliu Newmai, wife of Forest minister Awangbow Newmai, planted saplings along with SDO Tamei Renee, RFO Tamei Khundrakpam Johnson and volunteers of Tamah Students' Union.
This year, the theme of World Environment Day is "Reimagine.
Recreate.
Restore." and the global host to highlight the importance of ecosystem restoration is Pakistan.
KANGPOKPI: In connection with World Environment Day observance, several village youth clubs in Kangpokpi district embarked on plantation of tree saplings in collaboration with Kangpokpi Forest Division Saturday.
SP Ngaimun village Youth Club, Motbung Youth Club, United Saparmeina Youth Club and Keithelmanbi Youth Association planted more than 200 tree saplings each in their respective villages to commemorate the global event.
The tree saplings were provided by Kangpokpi Forest Division.
The four youth clubs conveyed its gratitude to the DFO Kangpokpi, Chinpilhing Kipgen for her assistance in providing the tree saplings.
Meanwhile, Zalen Group, a philanthropic organisation and Saitu Gamphazol Area Youth Organisation (SGAYO) in collaboration with Kangpokpi Forest Division observed World Environment Day at SGAYO playground.
Jangkholun, founder of Zalen Group, implored the students to nurture their talents and contribute to the society in every possible way while SGAYO information secretary Paul Guite encouraged the students and conveyed the commitment of the organisation towards rebuilding the eco-system.
DFO Chinpilhing Kipgen elaborated on various environmental challenges and the need for people to come together and join hands to save the environment.
Saplings were also distributed to villages within the area to encourage reforestation and afforestation to effectively address environmental damage.
