Legal awareness programme held

A one-day legal awareness programme was organized jointly by Ramlal Paul 1982 Matric Alumni and Imphal West District Legal Authority at Ramlal Paul Higher Secondary School, Keishamthong here today.
The programme was attended by RK Memcha Devi, Chief Judicial Magistrate of Imphal West and N Ibechaobi Devi, principal of Ram Lal Paul Higher Secondary School as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Advocate Dr Ch Narendra Singh while speaking on the topic 'Consumers' Rights & Right to Information' as Resource Person opined that public should be aware of basic laws and rights of the country as this will come handy whenever they encountered any legal problem.
He explained that people can obtain any information regarding works and policies of the government including corruption and transparency with the help of Right to Information (RTI) which was enacted in 2005 under Indian Constitution though it is not applicable in some cases.
He stated that many wrongdoings on part of the State Government like corruption in appointment to government jobs and collecting OBC certificate in unfair manner have came to light after filing applications under RTI.
