Imphal, June 14 2014 :
Together with a public meeting, the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) observed Protest Day at Kwakeithel Bazar today.
Speaking at the function, AMUCO vice-president Ph Deban said that the Protest Day was observed in protest against the Bangkok Declaration of June 14, 2001 inked between the Government of India and NSCN-IM.
The Bangkok Declaration had a particular clause 'without territorial limits' meaning the cease fire signed between India and NSCN-IM has been extended without territorial limits.
This particular clause infuriated the people of Manipur and people from different parts of Manipur came out voluntarily and took out a mammoth rally on June 18 which resulted in the loss of 18 precious lives in firing by security forces.
Pointing out that the violent incident happened at the time of the previous NDA Government, Deban said that the succeeding UPA Governments could not bring a concrete solution to the issue.
Now the NDA has returned to power at New Delhi and it evokes deep apprehension among the people of Manipur.
Deban also appealed to the incumbent NDA Government to work out a solution so that the people of Manipur under a peaceful and secure environment.
Rather than pursuing a divisive policy, the Government of India should make the ongoing dialogue with NSCN-IM transparent, he asserted.
